Neue Rasant fonts from Neue - (fhmrp)

Neue Rasant
Neue Rasant Neue RasantNeue Rasant

→ neue Rasant is an interpretation of a typeface used by the Singapore Land Transit Authority for its directional signage. The typeface design is based on a rigid grid with little to no room for optical compensations or any kind of harmonisation whatsoever. This approach can be seen as epitomic to an engineer’s way of designing which offers paradoxically unorthodox solutions in a seemingly orthodox system.

→ neue Rasant is a uniwidth design which means that the individual characters are occupying the same amount of space across all weights and styles. This way of designing a type family turns out handy if one wants to avoid unintentional line breaks or space consumption.

→ neue Rasant comes in five weights ranging from Thin to Bold. For the Italics the designer has the choice between

a traditional slant to the right or an unconventional slant to the left. All weights and styles are equipped with arrows matching the individual weight’s stroke thickness.

Louisa is a monospaced font-family designed and optimized specifically for small font sizes. But even as headline font it looks good. It has a very good distinguishability of letter forms and legibility even in longer text paragraphs. The character of Louisa is a combination of strong elements and warm, friendly forms. The font family is not only designed for coding and tabular layout, but can be used in different fields of communication design. Therefore it provides two stylistic sets with different letter forms: one with the look of serious modern typewriter font, the second with more soft letter forms and elements of a real italic. Additionally it consists oldstyle numbers (and of course tabular numbers) and a set arrows. The font is available in four styles: regular, italic, bold and bold italic.

Dihjauti /di:.'hjau.ti: | dee.'hyow.tee/, predominantly based off Dwiggin's Electra with shades of Palatino and Perpetua, is modern and stately. Like its inspirers, it has broad counters and spacing, which temper it and give it warmth, making it comfortable and well-suited for longer texts. It is balanced in all aspects, from its punctuation to its reference marks and symbols. Its design takes into consideration all extra characters for languages that few fonts support, such as African and First Nation. These extra characters, such as Edh, Esh, Gamma, Ezh, Yogh, the pharyngeal fricatives, the click consonants, which have added capital versions, the glottal stops, et cetera, actually look like they belong, as opposed to being afterthoughts. The italic incorporates a touch of Arrighi. It includes all transcription systems relevant to the Latin, Cyrillic, and Greek alphabets, as well as standard Coptic, plus extra characters for Teuthonista and First Nation. It also includes, to list a few, Egyptian-styled pictographs (where applicable), APL, a plethora of mathematical symbols and arrows, and a number of alternatives in the PUA. A Fontlog is included for referencing all additional characters.

Notes: 1) The superscript characters, modifier letters, and the numerators, are all part of the superscript table. 2) The bold versions of the font have some alternative/reversed characters; I did this because there is no difference in the math or punctuation symbols, i.e., the bold versions are not actually bold (with exceptions), which gives the font a better harmony. 3) The font uses anchors, which means that it will not align properly for linguistic use, or otherwise, without open type. 4) For those interested, Open or Libre Office can access all glyphs using: Insert > Special Character.

Avory is a gently condensed sans that challenges convention. It finds itself on the expressive end of the spectrum – features like the low optical center and wide horizontal crossbars give it an unmistakable appearance. Tall, with broad shoulders, easily spotted from afar. Designed by Sláva Jevčinová and inspired by the lettering work of Czech designer Jaroslav Benda, a lesser known treasure of mid-century graphic design. From there it developed into a full-fledged typographic power tool. Nine weights, complete with italics, small caps, a wide range of symbols. The rounded Serif with edges. Olivia Serif got curves on the outlines and edges on the inlines. So it can be very legible and space efficient at the same time: the curves keep the distinctions between the letters, the corners keep the influences from broadnibbed pens with a subtle horizontal stress for great legibility. Olivia has personality without being obtrusive. Three weights (light, regular, bold) are equipped with real italics, SmallCaps, different sets of figures, accents for almost every latin script, arrows, symbols. A fourth weight (black) comes without italics or SmallCaps, but all the other features. Olivia: with or without.

BF Corpa Gothic™ Pro is a kind of “Neue”-Edition of the beloved typeface designed by Guido Schneider. Inspired by hand-drawn geometric fonts from 1920s posters, this sans serif typeface is slightly condensed, and it appears compact and captivates with its expressive shapes and unique details, despite its pronounced Grotesque character. With its rather constructed, technical – but also vivid – appearance, the BF Corpa Gothic™ Pro is not only suitable for headlines and display applications, but is also pleasant to read in short and middle length text. The type family is engineered for exciting, professional but unusual designs. It is equipped with OpenType Features like 4 figure sets (LF, TF, OSF, SC), nice ligatures, many currency symbols, fractions, alternates, special characters, arrows and symbols – and small caps. 9 style sets give you the option to individualize and adjust the typeface to the requirement of your design, without changing the general visual feeling. In this way you can also switch the simply slanted styled Italic into a “real Italic”. Each of the 16 fonts (Upright and Italic) contains more than 940 glyphs and supports up to 220 Latin-based languages.

Welcome Amica Pro, a workhorse sans designed to give your branding a friendly, approachable look. What is it that makes a typeface friendly? Schizotype undertook extensive research* in this and the results are in! To cut a long story short, friendliness in sans serif fonts can be summed up in two words – short and fat. Basically, think Danny DeVito in letter form. The shortness in Amica Pro is achieved (somewhat counterintuitively) by pushing up the x-height. This, coupled with short ascenders and descenders, gives the text a squat appearance. For the fatness, that's easy in the bolder weights, but how to carry this through to the lights? Here, the fatness equates to roundness, so the letterforms, even if the stroke weight is light, have a rotund appearance from the wideness and roundness of the circular glyphs. When thinking about friendliness, we think about inclusiveness. To this end, Amica Pro supports a super wide range of latin-based languages, as it uses Underware's Latin Plus character set, as well as extra support for Vietnamese. Amica Pro is best used for branding, logos, infographics etc. It will give your UI a friendlier feel, but that doesn't mean it's not serious. There are many useful typographic features, including alternates, numerous figure styles, automatic fractions and case-sensitive forms. The italics are carefully optically corrected "sloped romans" and as such they are the same width as their upright equivalent, so changing your copy to italics will not mess around with the spacing. *I looked at a few fonts and drew some lazy conclusions.
